HOME VISITS ARE A UNIQUE ELEMENT OF OUR MISSION
After a neighbor-in-need leaves a message at the Voucher Line 563.584.2226, a team of volunteers set up a meeting inside the home of the person requesting assistance. By welcoming volunteers into their home, there is a higher degree of openness and willingness to engage the relationship. The neighbor tells their story against the backdrop of their personal space, home environment, and neighborhood. Their story is heard and respected; no judgements made.
This in-home meeting also offers our volunteers a more complete understanding of the neighbor’s situation and helps in our assessment about how we can best help them. Neighbors are often unaware of the wide-ranging resources we have access to. St. Vincent de Paul is not limited to the types of assistance we can provide as are other providers.
CLOTHING, FURNITURE, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, RENT AND UTILITIES ASSISTANCE
Personal clothing items, basic furniture necessities, and other household items are also available through the Voucher Center. These additional items include cleaning products, personal care and hygiene items, and other essentials such as kitchen items, table service, pops and pans, and small appliances. Items are offered as they are available. Individuals may also discuss rent and utility assistance with their volunteers.
FOOD PANTRY
As part of our Voucher Center at the Iowa St. location, we operate a food pantry. Individuals who have received vouchers from our volunteers, are invited to stop down to the Voucher Center during regular hours. If you would like to speak with a volunteer about obtaining a voucher, please call the Voucher Line at 563.584.2226. You will be directed to leave a message and volunteers will contact you.
